Meet Author Beem Weeks

AN ACCOMPLISHED AUTHOR Author Beem Weeks is  the indie author of the historical fiction/coming-of-age novel, Jazz Baby , a book quoted as being " wonderfully authentic " and the author a " magician with words ." THE SYNOPSIS:  While all Mississippi bakes in the scorching summer of 1925, a sudden orphanhood casts its icy shadow across Emily Ann Teegarten, a pretty young teen. Taken in by an aunt bent on ridding herself of this unexpected burden, "Baby" Teegarten plots her escape using the only means at her disposal: a voice that makes church ladies cry and angels take notice. "I'm gonna sing jazz up to New York City," she brags to anybody who'll listen. 'Cept that Big Apple-well, it's an awful long way from that dry patch of earth she used to call home. So when the smoky stages of New Orleans speakeasies give a whistle, offering all kinda shortcuts, Emily soon learns it's the whorehouses and drug joints promising to t...

Risk-free way to try out new authors

Shout out to Public Libraries! Visiting your local public library is a great, risk-free way to try out new authors Did you know that, like the general public, libraries sometimes order books from Amazon, too? If you want to read a book by an independent author (or any published author), but you're not ready to make a financial commitment to buy it, ask your local library to order it! The libraries around me – Sayville, Bayport-Blue Point, South Country, Sachem and Patchogue-Medford – all have paperback copies of Saving Toby. For a new, fairly unknown indie author like myself, this kind of support, not to mention exposure, is awesome! Side note: The libraries here on Long Island are all linked. I don't know if this is true of other areas/states, (*feel free to chime in and let me know) but here on Long Island, if a local library doesn't carry the book you seek, you can go online and click on the LI Link: Expand Search  and browse a much larger catalog source! Wi...

Why I Love Being Indie

Welcome to an #indiebooksbeseen Blog Hop An independent author has the freedom to express one’s creativity without being told how or when to do it. As an Indie author I am the captain of my ship. With my characters aboard, I set out for adventure. They learn about life, love and sacrifice within the boundaries of my chapters, but I learn, too, gathering snippets of information from each port-of-call of my own voyage. As a newbie captain, I’ve gained priceless insight about the many tributaries of writing under one’s own initiative: editing, blogging, marketing, social media, and the delicate art of selling one’s work without being too pushy. Despite the solitude of our work, an Indie author isn’t truly alone. If you listen, you’ll hear the calls from across the cresting waves. Others are out there. Many, many others, and together, we are both united and ignited by an allegiance to our craft. Countless times I’ve been offered insightful guidance and knowledg...
